Jackie Chan to Receive An Honorary Oscar

Jackie Chan has been in the movie business for more than 50 years and after more than half a century in the biz, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will bestow an honorary award.

Each year, honorary awards for lifetime achievements, exceptional contributions to motion picture arts and sciences, and outstanding service to the Academy are handed out during the Academy’s Governor Awards.

Here’s what Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs had to say:

“The Honorary Award was created for artists like Jackie Chan, Anne Coates, Lynn Stalmaster and Frederick Wiseman — true pioneers and legends in their crafts. The board is proud to honor their extraordinary achievements, and we look forward to celebrating with them at the Governors Awards in November.”

Turning in a number of child-actor, stuntman, and uncredited roles in the 60s and 70s, Chan finally got his big break in 1978’s Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow, a martial arts action/comedy film that would serve as the foundation to Chan’s long, storied cinematic career.

I wonder if Chow Yun Fat will ever get an honorary award?

I am grateful that they are finally recognising him as a fantastic talent. It is well deserved in my opinion. I honestly love the Police Story movies. The stunts, the humour, they are just a joy to watch 🙂

I love Jackie Chan despite how all of his movies run together for me. I like when he uses animals, like when he was in Australia & featured a koala. Thanks for visiting my blog so I would find yours to enjoy 🙂

  8. About time! IMO he’s one of the greatest physical comedians since Buster Keaton. Drunken Master and the Police Story series are my favorites.
