On November 18th 2016, J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World made a comeback to big screens with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Just before the first film was released, it was confirmed that there would in fact be five films in the series with the second being released on November 16th 2018. With just over a year to go, we are gradually getting more news on cast members, characters and the plot that we can expect from the second film… So where to begin?
There are A LOT of new faces appearing in the second film, with some of our favourites making a return!
The returning faces will be Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Katherine Waterston as Porpentina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Carmen Ejogo as Seraphina Picquery , Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, Kevin Guthrie as Mr Abernathy and Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald!
The new faces to the wizarding world are:
- Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange
- Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore
- Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander
- Brontis Jodorowsky as Nicolas Flamel
- Wolf Roth as Spielman
- Victoria Yeates as Bunty
- Derek Riddell as Torquil Travers
- Poppy Corby-Tuech as Rosier
- Cornell S John as Arnold Guzman.
- Ingvar Sigurdsson as Grimmson
- William Nadylam as Yusuf Kama
- Olafur Darri Olaffson as Skender
- Claudia Kim as one of the “featured attractions” of the circus
There are also lots of names that have been added to the IMDb for the next film:
- Deano Bugatti as a Muggle
- Doanna Preston as a ‘Circus Compare’
- Jason Redshaw as a Chef
- Tim Ingall as Spectrum
- Stephen McDade as Cirque Arcanus Worker
- Johanna Thea as a Ministry of Magic witch
- Callum Forman as a Doorman
- David Sakurai as Krall
There are also a few names that have been cast but currently do not have a titled role:
Fiona Glascott, Jessica Williams and Cornell John.
There was also a casting call a couple of months ago for actors and actresses to fill the roles of: young Newt Scamander, young Albus Dumbledore, young Gellert Grindelwald, young Leta Lestrange and a new character named Sebastian.
The plot is also confirmed to be slightly different to what we saw in the first film – especially as this time it will not be just New York, but instead we will be seeing London and Paris. There have recently been hints that we will see Hogwarts in the film as actors have been seen in Hogwarts robes as filming took place in Lacock Abbey in the past month or so. The Abbey, just like locations used for Harry Potter such as Gloucester Cathedral, are the perfect locations to film such iconic Hogwarts scenes.
We also learn that Newt Scamander will be joined once again by some of our favourite characters from the first – Tina, Queenie & Jacob. However, the fight that they will have to face, once again, is said to “test their loyalties.”
It has also been said that Grindelwald will make a “dramatic escape from MACUSA”which is quite ironic as in the first film we hear Seraphina Picquery, head of MACUSA, say “I will not be lectured by the man who let Gellert Grindelwald slip through his fingers.” Due to this dramatic escape, we will see the emergence of a familiar face but this time played by a new face – yes, we will see Albus Dumbledore played by Jude Law. Pottermore also confirmed that Dumbledore joins the fight but looks to his fellow student, Newt, who he “argued strongly against” his expulsion as Grindelwald has been “gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings.”
Now I don’t know about you guys but I am super EXCITED for the next film and I’m honestly struggling with the idea of having to wait a whole year for it to come out (though I’m sure the wait is entirely worth it)
What or who are you most looking forward to seeing in the next film? What was your favourite thing from the first film? I’d really love to get a discussion going about all your favourite things or memories to do with the first film so please don’t hesitate to comment!
