Marvel fans and film critics were pleased with the studio’s latest endeavor Captian America: Civil War. While there was certainly a lot to like about the sequel, it was two of the cinematic universe’s new characters that garnered the bulk of the praise – Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). Luckily for fans of these two relative newcomers, both heroes will be starring in their own film before the end of 2018.
The highly anticipated Spider-Man reboot, aptly titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, has been filming for over a month at this point, but news of casting additions keeps trickling in. Early on, surprise announcements of Donald Glover and Logan Marshall-Green joining the already loaded cast took the web by storm.
Deadline reports that actress and stand-up comedian Martha Kelly has signed on for an undisclosed role in the upcoming film. Kelly has made numerous appearances (as a comedian) on the likes of Last Comic Standing and Late Night With Conan O’Brien, but the Austin-based comic recently got her TV series starring alongside Zach Galifianakis in FX’s Baskets.
While fans can only speculate as to the role Kelly will play in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, it is probably safe to assume that the acting newbie is not going to portray a major character within the film. Along with Robert Downey Jr. and now Kelly, Homecoming contains a tremendous number of truly funny actors, which may give you an indication that the film will be aiming for a lighter tone.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for July 7, 2017. What do you think? Please share and leave a comment!
